Norway, Lofoten - Trail Ride in the Footsteps of Vikings
On the Trail Ride in the Footsteps of the Vikings, you get to ride among mountains with wonderful views, enjoy the white beaches and learn a little about the geology and animal life on the island and see relics from the Viking Age. One day you ride to a farm that runs a diverse farm with its own cheese production, herb garden and various animals. Back at the farm in Gimsøy, you are treated to tasty and local food rooted in the farm's history and food traditions.
In May, June and July you can experience the midnight sun. In August the beautiful «eternal» sunsets. In September and October, you have the best opportunity to experience the northern lights and you get to experience the beautiful autumn colors in Lofoten.
5-6 hours riding per day.
Preliminary day-by-day program. The program can go in different order or direction.
Day 1: You'll be transferred from the airport to your accommodation and allowed time to settle in. Enjoy a welcome dinner at the restaurant. After dinner, at c. 10pm, you'll set out on a short ride. This is a gentle ride to allow you to become familiar with the horses and your guides. In summer this will be under the midnight sun, whilst in winter you'll be in search of the Northern Lights!
Day 2: Full day tour at Gimsøy
Day trip on Gimsøy. Travel the Vikingvei/Viking Old Road and have lunch in Vinje valley. Lunch included.
Day 3: Vestvågøy and Aalan Cheese Farm
Day trip from Aalan cheese farm. www.aalan.no A 4-6 hour ride including ecological lunch at Aalan farm, where you can taste many of their famous goat cheeses.
Day 4 : Daytour at Gimsøy
Day trip on Gimsøy. You start in Gjendalen and ride down to the Vinje Beach where you have lunch at the local cafe. 4-6 hour ride. Lunch included.
Day 5: Unstad
You continue exploring the neighbour island enjoying the spectacular views on horseback and you’ll have lunch on another local cheese farm – Lofoten Gårdsysteri.
Duration: 4-6 hours depending on weather
Day 6: Home
Breakfast in the lodges before you´ll be transfered to Svolvær or Leknes airport.
